Are you looking for a role in which you’ll be a key point of contact for a highly challenging public sector budget? Do you want to know that success in your role directly impacts the lives of real people? Do you want to work in a challenging environment relating to the funding of Educational institutions?

My client is a large public sector organisation operating across a large area with a diverse remit and range of services. This role focuses on a key area that is always under the spotlight, and is a key role in ensuring sound financial management of large budgets, focusing on Education and young people’s services.

Key responsibilities of the Finance Manager – Education and Young People include:

  • Manage a small team made up of qualified and part-qualified accountants, overseeing their workload and performance, driving their progression, and ensuring the budget areas they look after are given a strong service from Finance
  • Lead the financial management of a key area in the Education field, ensuring funding is distributed appropriately to reflect individual and local needs
  • Perform high level financial modelling to test and challenge assumptions in where resources should be directed, testing scenarios to propose improvements to service provision and support the adequate delivery of funding arrangements
  • Manage complex and challenging stakeholder relationships to help non-financial individuals, both internal and external, to understand the complicated nature of the impact of legislation change and budget constraints.

This is a role focusing on an area that impacts the lives of many residents and success in this field will contribute to significant improvements in quality of life for real people. As an outward facing finance position, this will suit someone with expert communication skills who wants to support a vital area of public sector funding.

This is a highly flexible role and the balance between home-working and office time can be largely determined by the successful candidate, acknowledging the need to find the balance that works for the individual, the team, and the organisation. You can expect to do a large percentage of your work from home if desired.

To be considered, please meet the criteria as follows:

  • Have a deep understanding of the challenges facing Education funding, proven by hands on experience in senior finance roles in this field
  • Show strong Financial Modelling skills along with the ability to be a critical friend to internal and external customers operating in a complex environment
  • Be a strong team manager who can support and develop junior members of staff.
