Finance Manager

£35k–£45k | Permanent | Flexible Hybrid Working | Sports Organisation

Take ownership of a finance function where your expertise will shape decisions, strengthen financial management and help a community-focused charity make a lasting impact.

This is an opportunity to lead the finance function of a purpose-driven sports organisation delivering a range of community programmes. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll take responsibility for day-to-day finance, giving the leadership team the financial insight and confidence they need to manage resources effectively and deliver their plans.

You’ll have real autonomy to make the role your own. From improving financial systems and processes to helping programme managers understand their budgets, you’ll move beyond producing the numbers and make a tangible difference to how the organisation operates.

What you’ll gain

  • Real ownership – take responsibility for the finance function, with direct access to the CEO and scope to influence decisions

  • The chance to improve things – review systems and processes, reduce unnecessary administration and make finance more efficient

  • A varied role – combine hands-on financial management with budgeting, funding applications, governance and strategic projects

  • A voice in the organisation’s future – provide financial insight as the charity develops its programmes and explores plans for a new facility

  • Flexibility and support – benefit from a flexible approach to working arrangements, generous annual leave and opportunities for professional development

  • A role with purpose – help ensure funding is managed effectively so community programmes can continue to make a difference

What you’ll do

  • Own day-to-day finance, including transactions, ledgers, payments, expenses and payroll information

  • Produce monthly management accounts, with clear commentary and recommendations for the CEO and leadership team

  • Work with programme managers to develop budgets, understand financial performance and make informed decisions

  • Provide financial input into grant applications and manage reporting returns to funding partners

  • Prepare financial information for trustee meetings and support strong financial governance

  • Oversee year-end accounts and audit processes, with external support available

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, streamline processes and strengthen financial controls

What you’ll bring

  • Experience producing management accounts and managing day-to-day financial operations

  • Strong budgeting, reporting and financial analysis skills, with the ability to explain figures clearly to non-finance colleagues

  • A proactive approach to improving processes and helping colleagues manage their budgets effectively

  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines

You could be qualified, part-qualified or bring equivalent hands-on finance experience. The key is your ability to run the function confidently and provide practical support to the wider organisation.
