We are working with a well-established organisation in the social housing sector to recruit an Assistant Finance Business Partner to support its housing services and wider financial planning activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant with experience in management accounts, budgeting and forecasting who is looking to develop their finance business partnering skills within a complex, operational environment.
About the role
Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, you will support the delivery of financial planning, management reporting and analysis across housing services, working closely with operational managers and budget holders to ensure financial information supports effective decision-making.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting monthly management accounts, budget monitoring, forecasting and variance analysis across revenue and capital expenditure.
- Working with budget holders to review financial performance, investigate variances and identify opportunities to improve value for money.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of five-year financial plans, cash flow forecasts and longer-term business planning.
- Preparing financial reports and commentary for senior management and wider stakeholders.
- Monitoring income and expenditure, ensuring financial records, journals and reconciliations are accurate and up to date.
- Supporting financial planning for repairs and maintenance, housing operations and capital programmes.
- Supporting year-end processes, audit queries and the preparation of statutory reporting information.
- Building relationships with operational colleagues, explaining financial information clearly and helping them understand the financial implications of their decisions.
About you
We are looking for a proactive and analytical finance professional who is keen to build strong relationships across the organisation and develop their business partnering experience.
You will ideally have:
- Part-qualified accountant status and a degree or equivalent further education qualification.
- Experience supporting finance business partnering, management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate financial variances and explain findings to non-finance colleagues.
- Experience preparing budgets and forecasts, alongside a good understanding of financial accounting principles and reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
Experience within local government or social housing would be ideal, particularly for candidates who have worked in complex, operational environments with multiple stakeholders and competing financial priorities. However, we would also welcome applications from candidates with relevant finance business partnering experience in other sectors.
What's on offer
- The opportunity to develop your finance business partnering skills within a purpose-led housing organisation.
- Exposure to revenue and capital financial planning, longer-term business planning and financial performance monitoring.
- The chance to work closely with operational stakeholders and contribute to financial decision-making across housing services.
- A varied role offering opportunities to broaden your experience across management accounting, financial planning and reporting.
