Accounts Payable Officer

London | Hybrid – 2 days in the office | £28k - £30k | Permanent

Take ownership of accounts payable and help make a good finance function even better.

Looking for a finance role where you can build your skills, take responsibility and make a tangible difference? This is an opportunity to join the finance team at a well-established charitable foundation, taking ownership of the accounts payable process and working closely with colleagues across the organisation.

Initially, you'll take ownership of the accounts payable process, managing the finance inbox, processing invoices and working with budget holders across the organisation. You'll also have the opportunity to get involved in improvements to the finance system, helping introduce new automation that will make the process more efficient. As these changes take shape, there's scope to broaden your experience, learn new areas of finance and get involved in projects that make a real difference to how the team operates.

What you'll gain

  • The chance to improve how things are done – get involved in automating processes and making accounts payable more efficient

  • Room to develop your finance skills – build on your existing knowledge, with opportunities to learn month-end and other areas of finance

  • A supportive team environment – work alongside an experienced Finance Manager and colleagues who share knowledge and cover across the function

  • More than just invoice processing – contribute to audit preparation, process improvements and wider finance projects as the role evolves

  • A role where you can make your mark – take ownership of your work and suggest better ways of doing things

What you'll do

  • Manage the finance inbox, responding to queries and directing requests to the right people

  • Register and process supplier invoices, checking details and ensuring costs are allocated to the correct budgets

  • Send invoices to budget holders for approval and follow up where approvals are outstanding

  • Maintain accurate supplier records and ensure invoices are processed in line with financial controls

  • Scan and organise incoming invoices and supporting documentation

  • Help gather evidence for the annual audit

  • Support the introduction of new accounts payable automation and look for opportunities to improve processes

What you'll bring

  • Experience in accounts payable or a good grounding in transactional finance, with an understanding of how invoices are processed and approved

  • A solid understanding of debits and credits, including how transactions should be recorded

  • Confidence communicating with stakeholders, following up on outstanding actions and managing queries professionally

  • A reliable, proactive approach, with the initiative to take ownership and see tasks through

Finance graduates with a strong understanding of accounting principles and a clear interest in transactional finance will also be considered.
