Lease Reporting Accountant
£40k - £47k | Permanent | Oxford | Mostly Remote
Take ownership of a specialist lease accounting function and help shape how it operates.
We’re partnering with a large, recognisable organisation undergoing a significant change to its financial reporting requirements. As part of this work, they are creating a brand-new Lease Reporting Accountant position to take ownership of a complex lease portfolio and establish the processes, controls and systems needed for effective lease accounting going forward.
This is more than a traditional reporting role. You’ll become the organisation’s go-to specialist for lease accounting, with the opportunity to shape how the function operates, strengthen reporting and controls, and build robust processes from the ground up. With significant implementation work already underway, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the final stages of a new lease accounting system before taking ownership of the function!
Why this Lease Reporting Accountant role will advance your career:
- Own a specialist area: Become the key point of contact for lease accounting across the organisation, with responsibility for a large and varied portfolio.
- Build the function: Establish robust month-end, reconciliation, audit and statutory reporting processes, ensuring everything is well documented and fit for the future.
- Shape a new system: Support the implementation and finalisation of a dedicated lease accounting platform, helping ensure the system, data and automated journals work correctly.
- Work across the organisation: Build strong relationships with Property & Estates, Treasury, Finance Operations and other stakeholders, ensuring lease information is captured accurately and on time.
- Become the SME: Take ownership of technical lease accounting queries, support year-end and audit, and provide advice on more complex areas such as lease modifications, break clauses and changes to lease terms.
What you'll do:
- Own the end-to-end lease accounting process, ensuring the portfolio is accurately captured, maintained and reported.
- Oversee monthly lease journals and reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and ensuring accurate reporting.
- Lead the lease accounting requirements for year-end, statutory reporting and external audit.
- Act as the technical point of contact for lease accounting queries, including modifications, break clauses, renewals and changes to lease terms.
- Develop and maintain the procedures, controls and documentation needed to embed lease accounting into business-as-usual operations.
What you'll bring:
- Strong technical experience in lease accounting, with knowledge of FRS 102 and/or IFRS 16.
- Proven experience managing property leases, ideally as a significant part of your role or through a lease accounting implementation/conversion project.
- Strong understanding of lease accounting, reconciliations and statutory reporting.
- Confident working with lease accounting systems, or able to demonstrate you have successfully managed a lease portfolio manually.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
- Ideally professionally qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), although qualification status is flexible for the right technical experience.
Charity sector experience would be beneficial but is not essential. Experience with a lease accounting system or similar platform would also be advantageous.
Ready to take ownership of a specialist finance function?
If you’re looking for a role where your lease accounting expertise will genuinely shape the way an organisation operates, rather than simply maintaining an established process, we’d love to hear from you.
The role is based in Oxford, with hybrid working and an expectation of around two days per month in the office. A four-day working week could also be considered for the right candidate.
