Financial Controller
£100,000–£105,000 | Permanent | London | Hybrid Working
An opportunity to take ownership of a growing finance function, build smarter systems and use technology to transform how finance operates.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a rapidly growing, mission-led organisation at an important stage in its development. With significant expansion planned, the organisation is investing in its finance capability and looking for someone to take ownership of the accounting function across two entities, ensuring its financial operations are robust, reliable and ready to scale.
This is far from a traditional Financial Controller role. Alongside leading the month-end and audit processes, you’ll have the freedom to rethink how finance works, develop AI-enabled solutions and automate routine activity. As the organisation grows, there will be scope to broaden your influence into reporting, analysis and wider strategic projects.
What you’ll gain
- The chance to build, not just maintain – shape the finance processes, controls and systems needed for the organisation’s next stage of growth
- A genuine opportunity to innovate – take ownership of AI and automation initiatives, with the freedom to explore smarter ways of working
- Scope to develop your role – move beyond financial control into reporting, analysis and wider strategic projects as the organisation expands
- A collaborative, ambitious environment – work alongside talented colleagues across Finance, Operations, People, Legal and Technology
- Exceptional investment in you – benefit from generous professional development, productivity and wellbeing allowances, private medical cover and a strong wider benefits package
What you’ll do
- Improve finance systems, controls and workflows, using AI and automation to reduce routine work and create a more scalable function
- Own the month-end and year-end close across two entities, ensuring accurate, timely and reliable financial records
- Oversee reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, foreign exchange and the integrity of the accounting records
- Lead audit preparation and coordinate with external accountants on statutory accounts, tax and regulatory filings
- Oversee payment processes and review the work of junior colleagues, contractors and external bookkeepers
What you’ll bring
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent experience demonstrating your ability to operate at this level
- Strong hands-on experience owning month-end and year-end close processes, with the confidence to manage accounting activities end to end
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex issues, exercise sound judgement and communicate your reasoning clearly
- A track record of improving finance processes, strengthening controls and building more effective systems
- A genuine interest in AI and automation, with the curiosity to identify and implement opportunities to improve how finance operates
Experience in a charity or grant-funded environment, including knowledge of Charity SORP and FRS 102, would be beneficial. Equally, experience in a commercial, technology-led or fast-growing organisation could be highly relevant. Familiarity with Xero and AI tools such as Claude would also be advantageous.
