Are you an experienced Internal Auditor looking for your next interim opportunity? Do you enjoy working independently, travelling to different locations and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders? Are you available at short notice and looking for a varied role within a large, complex organisation?

A well-established organisation is seeking an Interim Internal Auditor to join its team on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension to 6 months or longer. This role offers predominantly remote working, with regular travel required across the North of the UK, including Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Candidates based in the North of England or Scotland are particularly encouraged to apply.

The role is paying approximately £375 per day + VAT (inclusive of expenses), with an immediate start preferred.

The key responsibilities of the Interim Internal Auditor are:

  • Delivering end-to-end internal audits across a geographically dispersed organisation, following an established audit programme.

  • Conducting audit fieldwork, reviewing financial processes and testing compliance with internal policies and procedures.

  • Identifying weaknesses in financial controls, governance and risk management arrangements.

  • Producing clear, comprehensive audit reports outlining findings, risks and practical recommendations.

  • Building effective relationships with stakeholders across different locations, including those without a finance background.

  • Presenting findings constructively and ensuring recommendations are understood and agreed.

  • Following up on previous audit recommendations to monitor progress and ensure improvements are implemented.

  • Working closely with the wider internal audit team to ensure audits are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised accounting or audit qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, CIA or equivalent).

  • Significant previous internal audit experience, ideally within a large or geographically dispersed organisation.

  • Strong knowledge of financial controls, governance, risk management and audit methodologies.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage and challenge stakeholders at different levels.

  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality audit reports.

  • A personable but assertive approach, with the ability to influence stakeholders and manage challenging conversations.

  • Previous public sector experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • Willingness to travel regularly across the North of the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  • Availability to start ASAP, although candidates available in December or January will also be considered.

The role will involve approximately 50% remote working and 50% travel across the North of the UK, with occasional visits to London.

This is an urgent requirement, and applications from immediately available Internal Auditors who meet the above criteria are particularly encouraged.
