Ibstock Place School are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit to a HR Manager role on a permanent, full time basis. This fantastic Independent School are now delighted to be recruiting to this newly created and key HR Manager role.

Developments in the School have been significant since the opening of the Senior Department in 1976 and over the last sixteen years, construction has included a building for the Preparatory Department, a Sports Hall, New School, a significant building housing a new library, science laboratories, numerous classrooms and a Theatre.

This role would suit an experienced and proactive HR generalist who could be responsible for providing an efficient, effective and responsive HR service to the School.

The key responsibilities will be:

  • Advise the Head and Bursar on statutory obligations and legislative changes concerning the recruitment of staff; and ensure compliance with legislation, Independent Schools Inspectorate regulatory requirements, guidance and best practice and the School’s policies and procedures.
  • Conduct termly audits to ensure that the School’s Single Central Register is accurate and up to date.
  • Lead on all recruitment matters including the onboarding of new starters and overseeing the leavers process.
  • Advise and support the SMT on any investigation, disciplinary action or grievance in accordance with employment law and ACAS guidance.
  • Attend formal hearing panels, e.g., disciplinary, capability etc., as the HR representative to provide advice and ensure consistent application of procedures with legal requirements.
  • Liaise with the School’s legal advisors on staff related issues including settlement agreements.
  • Manage any Occupational Health referrals.
  • Manage the School’s Sponsorship Management system, including Tier 2 visa requirements.
  • Track probationary periods and fixed term contracts.
  • Ensure return to work interviews with line managers take place.
  • Review, update and manage all IPS HR policies and procedures.
  • Undertake HR projects and any additional duties, as required by the Head and Bursar.

The organisation:

The School, occupying a ten-acre site on both sides of Clarence Lane, is divided into two departments, the Preparatory Department, 4-11 years (including the Pre-Prep, catering for children 4-6 years), and the Senior School 11-18 years.

Ibstock Place School is over-subscribed and there is assessed entry at the age of four for Kindergarten (Reception); the assessment is designed to identify those children who are able to take advantage of the Ibstock Place School experience.  There is a competitive entry examination at the age of eleven and Prep School pupils compete with external candidates and do not have rite of passage through to the Senior School.

Essential requirements:

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree qualified
  • Relevant qualification (CIPD qualified HR generalist or equivalent)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience as a HR Manager
  • Sound knowledge and experience of employment law, statutory obligations and legislative changes concerning the recruitment of staff; and ensure compliance with legislation
  • Knowledge of safer recruitment practises, including DBS checks
