Robertson Bell is excited to be working with a prominent central government body to recruit an Assistant Financial Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a supportive role within the financial accounting team, supporting the delivery of year-end process, tax compliance and continuous process improvement.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the production of the statutory accounts, including the provision of consolidation accounts.
  • Maintain and analyse accurate accounting records, including preparation of reconciliations and key journal entries.
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of key financial controls, including those operated by outsourced providers.
  • Prepare VAT and Construction Industry Scheme returns, ensuring compliance with all deadlines.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing clear, well-evidenced support and responding to requests in a timely manner.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to streamline reporting and drive continuous improvement across the function.
  • Build collaborative relationships across Finance and the wider organisation to ensure financial information remains accurate, timely, and relevant through ongoing change.

This is a hybrid role offering flexible working and requires you to travel into Birmingham once a week. The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in financial accounting, reporting and involvement in audit.
  • Possess a strong understanding of VAT and experience preparing tax returns.
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail and the ability to analyse and interpret large volumes of financial data.
  • Be a proactive learner with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Have experience using ERP systems and be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
