Financial Controller

£64,282 | Permanent | Homelessness Charity | London

Lead finance that drives real change - and accelerate your career in the process.

We’re looking for a Financial Controller to join a national charity tackling homelessness and social exclusion. In this senior role, you’ll take ownership of financial leadership, lead a growing team, and implement systems that make finance faster, smarter, and more effective—all while directly influencing services that improve thousands of lives. This is your chance to step into a high-impact, multi-entity finance role and build the experience to move into Director-level responsibilities.

Why this Financial Controller role will advance your career:

  • Shape strategy from day one – your insights will guide trustees and executive leaders, giving you direct influence over organisational decisions.
  • Lead and grow a team – mentor a busy finance team and develop your people leadership skills in a complex, mission-driven environment.
  • Drive transformation – implement new systems and automation that make finance more efficient, insightful, and impactful.
  • Expand your expertise – gain hands-on experience with group accounts, consolidated reporting, and a growing housing subsidiary.
  • Build a platform for senior leadership – position yourself for your next step in charity or sector-wide finance leadership.

What you’ll do - and what you’ll gain:

  • Own year-end reporting, audits, and trustee reports – sharpen your technical expertise while shaping key organisational decisions.
  • Strengthen controls and processes – improve efficiency, mitigate risk, and showcase your leadership impact.
  • Lead system improvements – make finance faster and smarter while gaining transformation experience.
  • Provide trusted advice across the organisation – build credibility and visibility with senior leaders.
  • Deliver management accounts for the housing subsidiary – see the direct impact of your work on growth and service delivery.
  • Oversee month-end close, reconciliations, payroll, and transactional finance – take ownership and ensure smooth operations.
  • Represent finance in senior forums – influence decisions at the highest level and demonstrate your strategic value.

What you’ll need:

  • Full recognised accounting qualification (or near completion).
  • Experience managing month-end and/or year-end processes in a robust control environment.
  • Proven, or ambitious, leadership skills to inspire and develop a team.
  • Confidence influencing senior leaders and trustees.
  • Charity, housing, or public sector experience is a bonus but not essential.

Location & working pattern:

Based in London, with a flexible hybrid model (typically two days per week in the office).

Ready to make your mark?

This is a rare opportunity to grow your finance leadership career while delivering real social impact. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged.
