Head of Finance
Medefer is partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell in their search for a permanent Head of Finance.
Medefer is a CQC-registered virtual healthcare provider working in partnership with the NHS to deliver rapid access to specialist outpatient care through a digital-first model. Often described as a “virtual hospital,” Medefer provides a mix of virtual consultations, diagnostics, blood tests, and face-to-face care where clinically required. With a growing workforce and ambitious revenue trajectory, Medefer is at an exciting stage of scale and transformation, combining patient-focused care with innovative digital solutions.
This is a senior leadership role, reporting directly to the CFO, with line management responsibility for a small team. The Head of Finance will lead the operational delivery of the finance function, ensuring high standards of accuracy, control, and reliability across all core finance activities. This hands-on role requires strong technical expertise, disciplined execution, and the ability to produce clear, decision-useful financial outputs.
The Head of Finance will:
- Lead Medefer’s finance operations, including month-end close, management accounts, statutory reporting, payroll, invoicing, and supplier payments.
- Maintain a robust financial control environment, ensuring policies and processes are documented, understood, and adhered to.
- Provide timely, accurate cashflow and working capital reporting, highlighting risks and supporting operational decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and management information to reflect operational reality and guide strategic planning.
- Identify and implement systems and process improvements to support scale, ensuring data integrity across finance systems.
- Lead, coach, and develop a small team, building a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with the CFO and wider leadership team to provide commercial insight and actionable financial advice.

We are seeking a hands-on, commercially minded senior finance professional with:
- A fully qualified accountancy designation (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Proven experience delivering month-end close, management accounts and statutory reporting.
- Strong technical accounting and financial control expertise.
- Experience in a hands-on finance role within a fast-moving or scaling organisation.
- A strategic mindset – always thinking about how finance, through reporting and business partnering, can enable the leadership team in planning and delivering the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders.
- High integrity and sound professional judgment.
Desirable:
- Experience in regulated environments.
- Background in scale-ups or high-growth SMEs.
- Experience improving finance systems and processes.
- Familiarity with Xero or similar cloud-based finance platforms.
Location
Mostly remote, with once weekly in-person attendance for leadership meetings and key sessions in central London.
