Are you a strong Management Accountant who enjoys improving how things are done? Can you work comfortably in imperfect systems and still produce quality output? Do you want an interim role where your work genuinely makes a difference?

A Housing provider in Shropshire is seeking an Interim Accountant – Central Services to support delivery through year end and provide continuity during a period of team transition. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role focuses on core management accounting delivery, balance sheet integrity and supporting the wider finance team. While the role has a business-facing element, the immediate priority is getting through year end cleanly and safely.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing monthly management accounting outputs, including journals and variance analysis.
  • Maintaining balance sheet integrity and supporting reconciliations.
  • Supporting payroll accounting and reconciliation for a single monthly payroll (c.170 employees), including pension accounting.
  • Working with systems and processes that are still evolving and identifying practical improvements.
  • Supporting year-end close activities alongside the wider finance team.
  • Reviewing work produced by junior team members and providing guidance where required.

This is an organisation where finance has already made progress and now wants to build on it. You won’t be starting from scratch, but you will be trusted to suggest improvements, stabilise delivery, and support a team through a critical reporting period. Hybrid working is on offer working from an easy to reach location in Shropshire.

To be considered, please meet these criteria:

  • Strong Management Accounting experience in a hands-on role.
  • Comfortable with journalling, variance analysis and balance sheet control.
  • Pragmatic approach to working in less-than-perfect systems.
  • Housing experience advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with property services or operational cost environments helpful.
  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant preferred.
  •

This is a 3–6 month interim opportunity. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
