Head of Finance

London | Hybrid Working | Up to £62,000 + excellent benefits

Are you a hands-on charity finance professional who enjoys rolling your sleeves up and making finance work better for a mission-led organisation? Do you want a role where you can genuinely shape how finance supports frontline services, fundraising and international programmes? Would you enjoy being part of a close-knit leadership team in a charity with a powerful, feel-good purpose?

A well-established charity with a long and proud history is looking to appoint a Head of Finance to take full ownership of its finance function. This organisation delivers frontline welfare services, community support and international welfare programmes.

The charity is entering an exciting but demanding period, including estate improvements, organisational change and the development of a new multi-year strategy. You will join at a pivotal moment, taking over a finance function that has recently been stabilised by an interim and is now ready for a permanent, hands-on leader.

What you’ll do

  • Take full ownership of statutory accounts, audit and Charity SORP compliance
  • Run the end-to-end finance function, including income, payroll, cashflow and month-end
  • Produce clear, insightful management accounts, budgets, forecasts and scenario plans for the CEO, Senior Management Team and Trustees
  • Act as a trusted business partner to fundraising, operations, people and international programmes
  • Support teams with better financial insight, including understanding return of investments on fundraising activity, risks and opportunities
  • Improve systems, controls and processes in a pragmatic, proportionate way
  • Line manage a small finance function and promote financial understanding across the organisation

What you’ll need

  • A CCAB or qualified by experience accountant, with solid charity finance experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Charity SORP, restricted funds and audit processes
  • Experience of both management accounting and financial accounting in a hands-on role
  • The ability to clearly explain finance to non-finance colleagues and trustees
  • A practical, improvement-focused mindset and confidence presenting financial positions accurately
  • A genuine desire to work for a mission-led organisation

What’s on offer

This is a rare opportunity to join a collaborative, values-led organisation with a strong sense of purpose and community. You will work closely with an engaged CEO and senior leadership team, supporting passionate colleagues delivering frontline impact. The role offers real variety, autonomy and the chance to make a visible difference.

You will receive a strong benefits package, including:

  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays, plus your birthday off (rising to 35 days after 5 years)
  • Option to buy or sell annual leave after 2 years
  • Hybrid working with flexibility on patterns
  • Employer pension contribution
  • Health Cash Plan and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work scheme and Season Ticket Loan
  • Company sick pay

If you want a hands-on Head of Finance role where your work directly supports a cause you can feel proud of, this is a genuinely rewarding opportunity. Apply today as the vacancy will close early if the right candidate is found.
