Are you a qualified finance professional with extensive charity experience operating at a senior level? Do you have a track record of stepping into interim leadership roles and quickly stabilising, improving, and modernising finance functions? Are you confident leading financial planning and reporting within a global charity environment?

An international charity is seeking an Interim Head of Finance to provide senior leadership during a period of absence. This role requires an experienced contractor who can take ownership of the finance function, ensure continuity of high-quality reporting, and introduce improvements to systems and processes.

Please note: prior charity sector experience is essential. Applications without this will not be considered.

This role requires one day per week in the London office.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing hands-on leadership of the finance function, overseeing a small but established team
  • Ensuring timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes across the organisation
  • Taking ownership of financial reporting to senior stakeholders, including the Deputy CEO and Treasurer
  • Reviewing and improving existing financial processes, with a focus on automation and reducing reliance on spreadsheets
  • Assessing current systems (including Xero) and implementing enhancements to support better forecasting and reporting
  • Supporting audit readiness and maintaining strong financial controls
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for financial decision-making and strategic input

The successful candidate will have:

  • Essential: Significant experience working within the charity sector
  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience operating at Head of Finance or equivalent senior level on an interim basis
  • A strong track record of improving financial processes, systems, and reporting
  • Experience with financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation in complex organisations
  • Strong technical capability, including confidence working with and improving finance systems
  • The ability to quickly assess existing functions, identify gaps, and implement practical solutions
  • A proactive and hands-on approach, with the ability to operate both strategically and operationally
