Interim Finance Director

Are you an experienced Finance Director with a strong track record in the charity sector? Do you enjoy strengthening financial planning, reporting and controls during periods of change? Could you combine strategic input at Board level with hands-on leadership of a finance function?

We're delighted to be supporting a highly respected national charity in the recruitment of an Interim Finance Director on an initial 6–9 month contract. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you'll provide leadership and stability, whilst delivering several important improvements across financial planning and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and strengthening budgeting and forecasting, including scenario planning
• Challenging the Long-Term Financial Plan and supporting decisions around sustainability, reserves and future investment
• Improving the quality and clarity of management information provided to the Executive Team and Board
• Reviewing financial controls and identifying opportunities to strengthen governance and reduce key-person dependencies
• Providing financial leadership through a strategic review of the organisation's five-year plan
• Leading the finance function and supporting the Finance Manager with day-to-day delivery
• Ensuring the organisation is well prepared for year-end and external audit

This is a hands-on assignment offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference within a values-driven organisation. You'll work closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Team and Board, providing both constructive challenge and practical solutions whilst leaving the finance function in a stronger position for the incoming permanent Finance Director.

The role is inside IR35, paid by Umbrella company, offering hybrid working and a strong preference for three days per week in the Essex office.

To be considered, please meet the following criteria:

• Fully qualified accountant with significant Finance Director-level experience
• Strong experience within the charity, membership body or wider not-for-profit sector, ideally within charities operating a service-delivery model
• A track record of improving budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial controls
• Experience advising Executive Teams, Boards and Trustees
• Strong strategic financial planning and modelling capability
