Interim Financial Controller

Robertson Bell is supporting a small, values-driven not-for-profit organisation with a strong social purpose to recruit an Interim Financial Controller on an initial three-month contract, with the potential of extension. 

This is a hands-on role requiring strong financial accounting expertise in the not-for-profit sector, while also holding responsibility for the oversight of a small but highly capable team. 

Our client is based in Southwest London and requires a minimum of three days per week in the office, which is best accessed best by car while public transport is also an option. It is expected that the required office attendance could exceed three days per week during this busy period. 

Key responsibilities for the interim Financial Controller will include:

• Overseeing the delivery of the year end audit, ensuring the preparation of accurate and timely statutory accounts while acting as a key point of contact for the auditors
• Taking ownership of the organisation balance sheet, oversight of banking and cashflow, as well as managing the risk and control environment
• Managing a small yet capable team of part qualified accountants through the year end period 
• Ensuring correct tax treatment of transactions, in particular partial exemption VAT
• Maintaining the production of monthly accounts and reports for the business 

Our client is looking for:

A qualified accountant with a strong track record in financial accounting within the not-for-profit sector. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

• Experience in preparing financial statements and supporting audits
• Strong balance sheet management and reconciliation skills
• Experience working in a small or medium-sized NFP organisation
• Practical knowledge and application of partial exemption VAT
• A proactive, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work independently
