Are you an experienced Service Charge Accountant looking for a role where you can use your technical expertise while also developing your business partnering skills?
Robertson Bell are recruiting for a Service Charge Accountant on behalf of a leading social housing organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a forward-thinking organisation and play a key role in delivering accurate service charge accounting, supporting financial planning, and improving processes across the business.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working across both the detail of service charge accounting and the wider stakeholder side of finance, providing insight and support to colleagues across the organisation.
The Role
Reporting into the wider finance function, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing accurate annual service charge accounts in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the annual service charge budget-setting process.
- Providing commentary and insight on budget variances for key stakeholders.
- Preparing and posting month-end journals, including accruals and prepayments.
- Supporting forecasting and financial planning activity.
- Assisting with year-end processes and statutory accounts preparation.
- Supporting rent and service charge accounting activities.
- Working closely with operational teams, providing financial advice and challenge where required.
- Supporting new developments and asset transfer activity.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and strengthen financial reporting.
The Organisation
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established social housing provider at a time of continued improvement and development across its finance function.
The organisation is focused on strengthening financial processes, improving reporting, and building stronger relationships between finance and the wider business. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact while working closely with teams across the organisation.
The Person
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience in service charge accounting.
- Strong technical accounting skills and experience managing service charge processes.
- Experience preparing accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.
- The ability to provide clear commentary and insight to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge and improve existing processes.
Experience within social housing is highly desirable, although candidates with strong service charge accounting experience from other sectors will also be considered.
This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys a mix of technical accounting and stakeholder engagement, rather than a purely transactional accounting position
