Are you an experienced charity finance professional looking for a flexible interim opportunity? Do you enjoy improving finance processes while supporting the day-to-day running of a small finance function? Are you looking for a role where you can make a lasting impact within a values-led organisation?

A small charitable organisation is seeking a Part-Time Charity Finance Consultant to join the team on an initial 3-month contract, offered on a part-time/ad hoc basis. This role has been assessed as outside IR35 and offers the opportunity to lead a range of finance process improvement initiatives while providing hands-on support to the wider organisation.

The key responsibilities of the Part-Time Charity Finance Consultant are:

  • Reviewing and strengthening finance processes and financial controls, ensuring they are robust, practical and fit for purpose.
  • Leading improvements to month-end procedures, balance sheet reconciliations, journals and accruals.
  • Developing and documenting clear finance processes, templates and month-end checklists to support the finance function.
  • Reviewing accounting treatments and ensuring financial records are accurate, consistent and well documented.
  • Producing and enhancing management reporting to provide meaningful financial insight to senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting the organisation with restricted fund accounting and ensuring appropriate financial reporting where required.
  • Providing guidance and training to colleagues, embedding new processes and promoting best practice across the organisation.
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders to identify further opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), although exceptional qualified by experience candidates will also be considered.
  • Previous charity sector experience, which is essential.
  • A proven track record of improving finance processes and implementing effective financial controls.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including reconciliations, journals, accruals and month-end procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support and develop non-finance colleagues.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience using Xero would be advantageous.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and deliver practical, sustainable improvements.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a small charity on a flexible initial 3-month contract, where you can make a significant impact by strengthening the finance function while supporting the organisation's longer-term success.
