DfE are a ministerial department supported by 18 agencies, public bodies, and non-ministerial departments, with offices based across England including Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Coventry and Darlington. They are responsible for children’s services and education, including higher and further education policy, apprenticeships and wider skills across England. As Tailored Review Delivery Lead, you will have responsibility for leading reviews of the form, function and efficiency of the Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs). This is an exciting opportunity to lead on a high profile area of work, ensuring the department delivers on its commitment to review each of its ALBs once during the course of each parliament. Our work is focused on helping the department and its ALBs function as effectively as possible as a part of total delivery system.
The post holder will be specifically responsible for:
*Leading all stages of reviews and making recommendations based on the findings, including;
ensuring Cabinet Office guidance is followed when planning and scoping, gathering and analysing evidence, drawing conclusions and making recommendations, before drafting and the publication of the final review report
*Leading and managing other members of the review team, including supporting colleagues at higher grades, as appropriate
*Working alongside the Tailored Review Strategy Lead who has oversight of the whole programme of reviews, and the development of a centre of expertise (including guidance, tools and processes) to support delivery
*Working collaboratively with the ALBs and their policy/sponsorship teams within DfE, fostering a partnership approach and building engagement at all levels.
*Liaising with Cabinet Office throughout the review process and gaining approval at the appropriate level.
*Feeding into the overall programme, enabling continuous improvement, setting strategy, developing our corporate approach and providing advice and guidance to deliver change.
The successful candidate will ideally have an understanding of organisational change, governance or experience in tailored or departmental reviews would be advantageous but is not essential. The role requires an individual who has the aptitude for analysing information and the use of critical and creative thinking to synthesise information, with a strategic focus and the need to take into account the varied and complex nature of our ALB landscape. You will have a passion for delivering through partnerships, building effective relationships, and the personality to lead and influence people, including the confidence to challenge where appropriate. Your communication and project management skills will underpin your ability to work at pace whilst maintaining quality and high standards.
