Do you want to make a big difference to an established and successful charity in a small period of time? Do you want to join at a time when there are exciting changes afoot? Do you want to bring your technical ability to an organisation looking to develop its collaborative working culture across the entire team?

My client is a well-known charity with a long history that is currently enjoying a revival of a number of its functions following the pandemic. They are recruiting for an Interim Financial Controller on a 6-month FTC with key responsibilities such as:

  • Guiding the finance team through year end and ensure a smooth delivery of the statutory accounts and year end schedule, as well as leading the team through the audit process
  • Liaising with the newly appointed auditors and be the representative responsible for delivering a timely and accurate closure of accounts
  • Being the lead on all finance systems, ensure accuracy in their data and ensuring an environment of sound financial control is maintained, in addition to leading on the integration of a new purchase ordering system
  • Deliver efficiencies across the finance team, help stabilise the team, and take the lead on monthly processes such as reconciliations and month end closure
  • Manage a small team of Finance Officers and encourage them to commit to their ongoing development.

The charity is committed to its cause, which focuses on an often-marginalised demographic in society. Staff are passionate about improving conditions for the service users and there is a common goal to increasing commerciality by promoting a collaborative, interactive culture across all departments, especially finance. As such, the success candidate will be someone with a strong technical ability combined with a natural Business Partnering mentality.

A huge amount of remote working is on offer and the office in an easily accessible part of London is being used for collaboration and team meetings.

Candidates should meet the key criteria as follows:

  • Be a fully qualified accountant with strong technical ability, ideally with Group Accounts experience and confidence in a complex financial environment
  • Have experience in the Charity sector with a strong understanding of Charity SORP and experience leading on year end
  • Be a people person who can build strong working relationships with a collaborative attitude and a desire to feel part of a close knit team

Applications will remain under constant review until the ideal candidate is found – please don’t delay your application in case the role comes off the market soon!
