Are you an experienced charity finance leader with a strong track record of managing year-end and audit processes? Do you have the confidence to step into a hands-on leadership role at short notice? Are you comfortable overseeing both operational finance and stakeholder management during a key transition period?

A charity is seeking a Temporary Financial Controller to join on a short-term contract to provide stability and leadership during year-end and audit. This role will take ownership of the audit process, oversee the finance function and support the organisation while a permanent senior appointment is finalised.

Please note: prior charity sector experience and experience leading year-end processes are essential.

The role is based on a hybrid basis, with approximately one to two days per week in the Central London office.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the organisation through year-end and acting as the key contact for external auditors
  • Reviewing schedules and ensuring all audit preparation work is completed effectively
  • Overseeing month-end processes and maintaining strong financial controls
  • Managing and supporting the transactional finance team on a light-touch basis
  • Approving key financial transactions and maintaining banking relationships
  • Supporting the production and oversight of management accounts
  • Providing continuity and leadership across the finance function during a period of transition

The successful candidate will have:

  • Essential: Significant charity finance experience
  • Essential: Proven experience leading year-end and audit processes
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) preferred, although strong QBE candidates will also be considered
  • Experience overseeing transactional finance teams and maintaining day-to-day finance operations
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and add value quickly within a changing environment
  • A proactive and confident approach, with the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced interim finance professional to provide leadership and continuity within a well-established charity during a critical period.
