Senior Financial Accountant (Donor Compliance & Audit)

£58k to £62k | Fully Remote | USAID or ECHO Expertise Needed

Take ownership of major donor compliance and audit activity across a complex international organisation, working with senior finance teams and leading external auditors.

We’re partnering with a leading international organisation on a Senior Financial Accountant role with global responsibility for donor compliance and audit activity for their two biggest donors. With significant funding from USAID and ECHO, this is a high-profile role with exposure across country offices, member organisations and external audit partners.

You’ll take ownership of major donor audit engagements from planning through to completion, working closely with country finance teams and external auditors to ensure expenditure is properly evidenced, compliant and audit-ready. Alongside the audit cycle, you’ll analyse findings and disallowances, provide guidance to finance teams and help strengthen processes to prevent issues recurring.

Why this Senior Financial Accountant role stands out:

  • Global ownership: Take responsibility for donor audit activity across multiple countries and member organisations, rather than managing a single programme or grant.
  • Work with major institutional donors: Develop deep expertise across USAID and ECHO requirements, with the opportunity to work across some of the organisation’s most significant funding streams.
  • More than audit coordination: Lead the engagement end-to-end, from planning and scoping through to testing, findings and follow-up.
  • Influence how finance operates: Work directly with country finance teams to understand the root cause of findings, improve compliance and reduce donor disallowances.
  • Senior stakeholder exposure: Build relationships with country Finance Directors, member organisations and external auditors, with scope to influence at a global level.

What you'll do:

  • Lead USAID and ECHO donor audits across multiple countries, from planning through to completion.
  • Coordinate country, regional and member finance teams to ensure audit-ready evidence and documentation.
  • Manage external auditor queries, testing and follow-up.
  • Review expenditure and supporting documentation, identifying and resolving potential disallowances.
  • Analyse findings and drive actions that strengthen compliance and prevent repeat issues.
  • Advise country finance teams on donor requirements, audit readiness and stronger audit trails.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in donor compliance and audit within an international, multi-country organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of USAID and/or ECHO requirements.
  • A background in financial accounting, donor compliance, programme finance or audit in either practice or industry.
  • A professional accounting qualification is advantageous, but relevant experience and specialist donor knowledge are equally valued.

If you’re looking for a role where you can combine your knowledge of USAID / ECHO audits with specialist donor compliance and senior stakeholder exposure, we’d love to hear from you.
