Are you a qualified accountant with strong experience in development finance, investment appraisal and team leadership? Are you looking for a genuinely senior role where you can influence major development decisions and work closely with senior stakeholders?

We are supporting a leading social housing organisation in the recruitment of a Senior Finance Manager – Development. This is a newly uplifted role, offering significant senior exposure and the opportunity to play a key role in a major development and grant programme.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead a team of finance professionals and provide financial insight across development, joint ventures and business planning. The role is heavily focused on team leadership, financial appraisal, commercial challenge and forward-looking insight.

The Role

You will work closely with three Heads of Development, acting as a key finance partner across the development programme and ensuring investment decisions are supported by robust financial analysis.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing development finance team.
  • Providing financial leadership across development schemes, new properties and delivery programmes.
  • Reviewing financial appraisals, challenging assumptions and assessing whether schemes are commercially and financially viable.
  • Providing forward-looking insight to senior leaders, highlighting risks, opportunities and recommendations.
  • Acting as the lead Finance Business Partner for joint ventures.
  • Supporting the annual budget and business planning process.
  • Overseeing forecasting and financial reporting across development schemes and JVs.
  • Preparing and presenting high-quality reports and insight for the Board and senior leadership.
  • Working closely with the three Heads of Development and building strong commercial relationships across the organisation.
  • Managing the relationship between finance and development, ensuring finance is seen as a genuine strategic partner.
  • Ensuring the team delivers accurate, timely and commercially relevant information.

About You

You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with previous experience managing and developing a finance team.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience within development finance, investment appraisal or a related commercial finance environment.
  • Experience reviewing and challenging complex financial models, assumptions and appraisals.
  • Previous experience partnering senior stakeholders and providing commercially focused advice.
  • Strong leadership experience, with a track record of developing and engaging teams.
  • The ability to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations and insight.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to challenge at senior level.
  • A broad commercial outlook beyond traditional group finance.
  • Experience within social housing is highly desirable, although not essential.

This is a genuinely senior finance position with significant exposure to the Finance Director, Board and senior development leadership. You will have real influence over investment decisions and the opportunity to shape how finance supports a major development programme.

If you're an experienced, qualified finance leader who enjoys developing people, challenging decisions and providing forward-looking commercial insight, this could be an excellent next step.
