Are you an experienced Finance Manager who enjoys building and improving finance functions? Do you have experience bringing outsourced finance processes in-house and implementing new systems? Are you looking for a part-time opportunity where you can genuinely shape how finance operates?
A well-established organisation is seeking a Part-Time Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function during an important period of change. The organisation is open to considering candidates on either a temporary/interim or permanent basis, with the role initially expected to be approximately three days per week.
This is a rare opportunity to build an effective in-house finance function from the ground up. You will lead the transition away from a long-standing outsourced arrangement, implement a new accounting system and establish the processes, reporting and controls required for the future.
The role offers significant flexibility, with predominantly remote working and occasional travel required to offices in Berkshire and London.
The key responsibilities of the Part-Time Finance Manager are:
- Leading the transition of financial management and accounting activities from an externally managed arrangement into an effective in-house finance function.
- Taking ownership of the implementation of a new finance system, including transferring financial information and establishing appropriate processes and controls.
- Developing and improving budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and management reporting.
- Establishing robust month-end processes and ensuring senior stakeholders receive accurate and meaningful financial information.
- Taking responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the organisation once the transition is complete.
- Reviewing existing finance processes and designing a proportionate, efficient structure suitable for the organisation's future requirements.
- Recruiting and subsequently managing additional transactional finance support.
- Providing financial advice, insight and challenge to the senior leadership team.
- Preparing and presenting financial information to Trustees and supporting effective financial decision-making.
- Ensuring appropriate financial controls, governance and reporting arrangements are embedded across the organisation.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience operating as a Finance Manager, Head of Finance or in a similarly broad finance role.
- Strong experience across management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
- Experience implementing or significantly developing a finance system; Xero experience would be highly advantageous.
- The ability to establish finance processes, controls and reporting structures rather than simply inherit existing ways of working.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to advise senior leaders and Trustee-level stakeholders.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to remain involved in day-to-day finance while developing the wider function.
- Experience working within a smaller, complex organisation would be highly advantageous.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of a significant finance transition.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a tangible impact, taking an organisation through a significant finance transformation and leaving behind a robust, sustainable in-house finance function. Candidates seeking either an interim assignment or a longer-term permanent opportunity are encouraged to apply.
