A growing charity is partnering with Robertson Bell to recruit a Part Time Finance Manager (£55,000 - £60,000 FTE) on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced charity finance professional to take ownership of a broad finance function and play a key role in strengthening the organisation's financial sustainability, systems and processes.
This is a genuinely hands-on and autonomous role, suited to someone who can combine strong technical accounting with strategic thinking and excellent people skills. The organisation has recently centralised its finance processes and implemented new systems, creating an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to take these forward, improve reporting and shape how the finance function develops.
The role
- Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, overseeing month-end, year-end, budgeting and forecasting.
- Produce accurate and insightful management accounts and financial reporting for senior leadership, trustees and the Finance Sub Committee.
- Lead the preparation of year-end accounts in accordance with the Charities SORP and support the annual audit process.
- Provide financial insight and scenario modelling to support long-term planning and organisational decision-making.
- Oversee income, expenditure, payroll, reconciliations, journals and cashflow.
- Maintain robust oversight of restricted funds, project budgets and grant reporting.
- Strengthen financial controls, processes and procedures across the organisation.
- Take ownership of the finance systems, identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting and efficiency.
- Work closely with non-finance colleagues, helping budget holders understand financial information and make informed decisions.
- Support the Assistant Accountant, providing guidance and oversight while remaining comfortable getting into the detail when required.
- Build strong relationships with funders, commissioners, partners, trustees and other stakeholders.
- Support wider business planning and organisational development, ensuring finance remains aligned with the organisation's strategic objectives.
The organisation
The organisation is an established, purpose-driven charity with a turnover of approximately £1.5m and around 30 employees. It works closely with community organisations and partners to deliver meaningful services and support across the local area.
The finance function is at an exciting point of development. New systems and centralised processes have been introduced, but there is now a need for an experienced finance professional to take ownership, drive improvements and ensure the function is operating as effectively as possible.
The successful candidate will have genuine autonomy over how the finance function develops. This is not a role for someone looking to simply maintain the status quo; the organisation is looking for a proactive individual who can identify opportunities, improve processes and provide the financial leadership needed to support future growth.
Essential criteria
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Strong experience across management accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience producing year-end accounts and working with the Charities SORP.
- Strong understanding of restricted funds, project accounting and grant reporting.
- Experience across budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and financial planning.
- Strong systems and process improvement experience, ideally including cloud-based finance systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across an organisation.
- Comfortable working strategically while remaining hands-on with the detail.
- Proactive, adaptable and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience working within the charity sector would be highly desirable.
