Looking to take the next step in your finance career with a clear path for growth? Are you keen to move into a more strategic, varied role where you can influence finances? Want to work somewhere that genuinely invests in your development and progression? Then this could be the opportunity for you.

Robertson Bell is excited to be supporting a large and growing public sector organisation to recruit an Part-Time Finance Manager (0.8 FTE) on a permanent basis. This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Finance Officer or part-qualified Accountant to step into a more senior role, offering a long-term route to Finance Manager level.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the Finance Manager and Business Managers to support annual budgeting and in-year forecasting.
  • Prepare and review management account papers, identifying and investigating variances and reporting on key funding streams.
  • Monitor income streams and capital spend, highlighting opportunities for cost saving or additional income.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, trip and bursary accounting, and credit card processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures, keeping accurate records and supporting external audit requirements.
  • Line manage the Finance Officer and Finance Assistant, providing day-to-day oversight and supporting their development.

This role is offered on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE) with a flexible hybrid working pattern. You’ll typically be based in school two days per week, with the remaining hours worked remotely – and greater flexibility available during school holidays. In return, you'll receive 24 days’ annual leave rising to 32 with service (pro rata), and an outstanding employer pension contribution of approximately 20%. Most importantly, you’ll join an organisation that prioritises growth, with excellent opportunities for internal progression and career development.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold or be studying towards AAT Level 4 or a professional accountancy qualification, or be qualified by experience.
  • Bring experience from the education or not-for-profit sector, or from an audit/accounting practice background.
  • Possess strong Excel skills (including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables), with excellent attention to detail and confidence in variance analysis.
  • Have experience in accruals, prepayments, and month-end finance processes.
  • Be confident managing others – even on a dotted-line basis – and able to work proactively with budget holders and school staff.
  • Be keen to progress and take on additional responsibilities in the future.

Interviews will be held via a one-stage, in-person process including an assessment. Applications are under constant review – apply now to be considered.
