This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected local government organisation as a Lead Financial Accountant. Working two days per week in the office, you’ll be part of a collaborative and professional finance team that prides itself on maintaining high standards and supporting continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on audit committee reporting and annual audit preparation

  • Oversee year-end closure and production of statutory accounts

  • Prepare quarterly financial reports and provide clear analysis for senior stakeholders

  • Ensure strong financial governance and compliance across all processes

  • Support system improvements and contribute to ongoing process efficiency

  • Provide financial advice and support to colleagues across the organisation

  • Line manage or mentor finance staff

Person Specification

  • Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent); QBE candidates with strong local government experience will also be considered

  • Proven experience within local government finance is essential

  • Strong understanding of audit processes, financial reporting, and year-end closure

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex financial information clearly
