Internal Auditor - 1 Year FTC

Robertson Bell are delighted to be supporting a large public sector organisation as they recruit an Internal Auditor on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a qualified audit professional to play a key role in strengthening financial governance, risk management and internal controls across a complex, multi-site organisation.

Based in Central London, the role will also require regular travel across the UK, including overnight stays, to undertake audits, engage with local teams and deliver guidance and training. This position offers a high degree of autonomy, variety and the chance to make a meaningful impact on how the organisation operates.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering a programme of internal audits across multiple cost centres and operational sites.
• Reviewing financial controls, governance arrangements and risk management frameworks.
• Conducting both routine and ad hoc audits, identifying areas of non-compliance, inefficiency or risk.
• Preparing clear, evidence-based audit reports with practical recommendations for senior stakeholders.
• Maintaining comprehensive audit working papers and documentation in line with best practice.
• Providing advice, guidance and training to operational teams to strengthen financial controls and compliance.
• Working collaboratively with finance colleagues, senior management and non-finance stakeholders across the organisation.

The successful candidate will:

• Be CCAB qualified with strong technical knowledge of internal and external audit principles.
• Have proven experience delivering internal audits within a large, complex or multi-site organisation.
• Demonstrate excellent analytical skills and a strong eye for detail.
• Be confident producing clear, concise reports for both financial and non-financial audiences.
• Have strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently to meet strict deadlines.
• Be comfortable with extensive UK travel and regular overnight stays.
