Rent Accounts Officer

Location: Dartford
Salary: £16 - £21 an hour – depending on experience
Contract: Interim
Hours: 35 hours a week

We are currently recruiting for a Rent Accounts Officer to join our client’s team. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-focused finance professional to play a key role in maintaining accurate rent accounting records and delivering a high-quality service to customers.

The Role

As a Rent Accounts Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the rent accounting system, ensuring information is accurate, complete and up to date. You will also support effective financial controls and contribute to the delivery of a first-class service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process transactions to tenant accounts accurately and within agreed timescales, including automatic files, payment types and posting references within the housing management system.
  • Post cash book rent transactions and maintain accurate records to support the timely reconciliation of nominal ledger control accounts.
  • Process changes to tenant and property account information, including tenant movements, new properties and property disposals.
  • Raise rent debits and reconcile postings against expected charges.
  • Process adjustments for dishonoured Direct Debits and issue appropriate notifications to tenants and relevant income recovery teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Good general standard of education, particularly in numeracy.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Some understanding of financial databases and ledger systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with housing, rent accounting or property-related financial systems.
  • Experience of working with financial databases and housing management systems.
  • Knowledge of rent accounting processes and reconciliations.
