Do you actually understand balance sheet reconciliations, not just complete them? Can you work through legacy issues and get to the bottom of what’s really driving a balance? Are you comfortable turning messy spreadsheets into something structured and sustainable?

A Housing provider in London is seeking an Interim Reconciliations Accountant on a 4-6 month contract to take ownership of balance sheet control accounts across a multi-entity group structure. This is a hands-on role focused on bringing structure, clarity and control to reconciliations that have historically lacked ownership. You’ll be responsible for ensuring balances are understood, supported and correctly presented — not just that they add up.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reconciling key balance sheet accounts across multiple entities, including accruals, prepayments and rent debtor control accounts.
  • Investigating legacy balances, identifying root causes and correcting mispostings between balance sheet and P&L.
  • Reviewing underlying transactions (e.g. invoices, journals) to ensure balances are accurate and appropriately classified.
  • Managing intercompany balances and ensuring corresponding entries are correctly reflected across entities.
  • Cleaning up and improving reconciliation templates and processes to create a sustainable monthly routine.
  • Supporting the transition from backlog clearance to a steady, repeatable reconciliation cycle.

This is a role where your work will have an immediate and visible impact. You’ll be bringing control to an area that has lacked consistency, helping the finance team move from reactive clean-up to structured monthly processes. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in getting the numbers properly understood. The role offers hybrid working with 1-2 days in the office per week.

To be considered, please meet these criteria:

  • Strong experience in balance sheet reconciliations, including complex or legacy accounts.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies, not just report them.
  • Comfortable working across multiple entities and intercompany balances.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with imperfect or manual data sets.
  • Housing sector experience desirable but not essential.

Please reach out now for an informal conversation on the role as this is sure to move quickly.
