Robertson Bell are pleased to be supporting a leading not-for-profit organisation in their search for a Payroll Manager to join on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a busy payroll function and deliver a high-quality service across both permanent and flexible staffing groups.
The Role
- Manage end-to-end monthly payroll for a large, multi-site workforce, including flexible/bank staff.
- Oversee timesheet inputs and process through a computerised payroll system.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC, RTI submissions, auto-enrolment, and year-end reporting.
- Prepare payroll journals, reconciliations, and liaise closely with HR on starters, leavers, and variable pay.
- Supervise and support a Payroll Assistant, whilst remaining hands-on with payroll delivery.
The Person
We are looking for a confident and technically strong payroll professional who can work independently and quickly adapt. You will bring:
- Significant experience managing end-to-end payrolls of similar size/complexity.
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, pensions, RTI, and auto-enrolment.
- Proficiency with computerised payroll systems.
- Strong Excel and reporting skills, with the ability to explain payroll matters clearly to non-specialists.
- Supervisory experience is helpful but not essential – accuracy and independence are key.
Working Arrangements
- This role is based in North London.
- Hybrid working applies with three days per week in the office.
- During the first two months, the successful candidate will be expected to work five days per week in the office to support a smooth handover and induction.
