Are you the kind of Management Accountant who spots when something doesn’t add up and won’t let it go? Can you turn around management accounts faster, without sacrificing control or accuracy? Do you enjoy troubleshooting messy data, manual processes and high-volume Excel models?

A small but growing Housing-focused group is seeking an Interim Management Accountant on a 4-6 month contract to support the delivery of management accounts across several subsidiary entities. This role is focused first and foremost on getting the numbers right, tightening month-end timelines, and building in the capacity for more meaningful business partnering over time. The key challenge is ensuring the accounts reconcile and make sense in an environment where processes still include a number of manual steps.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing monthly management accounts for multiple entities, ensuring the numbers reconcile and the story makes sense.
  • Posting and reviewing journals, maintaining integrity of month-end outputs and resolving discrepancies.
  • Owning the month-end timetable with a focus on reducing the current turnaround time and improving consistency.
  • Providing clear commentary and variance analysis to support decision-making.
  • Troubleshooting high-volume data issues in Excel and diagnosing where and why things are not balancing.
  • Working closely with operational stakeholders (e.g., rents and operations teams) to improve data quality and resolve recurring issues.

This is a role where you can make a visible impact quickly. The outgoing interim has raised standards and improved turnaround time — the priority now is to maintain that progress, embed stronger routines, and continue improving month-end delivery. If you enjoy combining management accounting with practical problem-solving and process improvement, this is a very satisfying assignment. A handover will be available along with process notes.

The successful candidate will enjoy the flexibility of a routine one day per week in the office.

To be considered, please meet these criteria:

  • Proven experience producing management accounts in a multi-entity or high-volume environment.
  • Strong Excel capability and confidence working with large datasets, formulas and reconciliation troubleshooting.
  • A procedural, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and implement fixes.
  • Comfortable working in organisations where processes include manual elements and require continuous improvement.
  • Housing sector experience is highly desirable, ideally from a larger organisation where volumes are significant.

Interviews arranged quickly – please get in touch to discuss in more detail.
