Are you an experienced finance leader looking for an opportunity to provide stability and strategic support during a key transition period? Do you have the ability to operate at both a strategic and hands-on level? Are you confident working closely with senior leadership and trustees while overseeing day-to-day finance operations?

A not-for-profit organisation based in the Lake District is seeking an Interim Head of Finance to join on an initial 3-4 month contract starting in July. This role will provide essential leadership and continuity during a period of transition, overseeing the finance function while supporting the wider organisation with strategic and operational financial management.

The role can be offered on either a full-time basis or a minimum of 4 days per week and will require on-site presence for 2-3 days each week. Accommodation can be made available if required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing a small finance team, ensuring effective day-to-day operations
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes
  • Producing and reviewing management accounts and providing financial insight to senior stakeholders
  • Supporting the Board of Trustees and attending finance and risk committee meetings
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO on financial and strategic matters
  • Reviewing finance systems, processes and structures, making recommendations for future improvements
  • Supporting governance responsibilities, including company secretariat duties
  • Providing leadership and continuity through a transitional period

The successful candidate will have:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience operating in a senior finance leadership role
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with trustees and senior leadership
  • A strategic mindset combined with a hands-on approach to operational finance
  • Experience overseeing management accounting, forecasting and financial controls
  • Experience using Sage accounting software would be advantageous
  • Previous not-for-profit or charity experience is desirable, but not essential

This is an excellent opportunity to join a values-driven organisation and play a key role in maintaining stability and supporting future planning during an important transition period.
