Contract: Fixed-term, 6 months
Salary: £32,000–£38,000 FTE, pro rata for 3 days per week, depending on experience
We are delighted to be working with a highly regarded organisation to recruit an experienced Grant Accountant on a six-month fixed-term basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant with strong grant accounting and charity/not-for-profit experience to take ownership of grant financial reporting and compliance, while also establishing a robust procurement framework.
Working closely with the Senior Finance & Operations Manager and wider fundraising and finance teams, you will play a key role in ensuring grant finances are accurately managed, compliant and well reported, while supporting the development of effective procurement processes.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for preparing financial information for grant proposals and donor reports, maintaining restricted and unrestricted fund schedules, monitoring grant expenditure and ensuring compliance with funder requirements and Charity SORP.
Alongside the grant accounting responsibilities, you will design and implement a procurement framework, including supplier due diligence, purchase order processes and contract management. Once established, you will ensure a smooth handover of the procurement function to the Finance Assistant.
This is a varied role that would suit someone who enjoys working across both technical finance and process improvement within a purpose-led organisation.
Prepare detailed financial information for grant proposals, including budgets, cost modelling and financial narrative.
Prepare and submit accurate donor financial reports and grant claims in line with funder requirements and deadlines.
Maintain restricted and unrestricted fund schedules, monitoring grant budgets against actual expenditure and reporting variances.
Ensure grant expenditure is accurately coded in accordance with donor requirements and Charity SORP.
Maintain grant documentation and compliance evidence to ensure audit readiness.
Work closely with fundraising colleagues, providing financial insight and constructive challenge on donor budgets and proposals.
Prepare month-end reconciliations for projects and funding.
Support audit schedules and external audit requirements as required.
Contribute to wider finance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
We are looking for an experienced grant accounting professional who is confident working independently and managing competing priorities within a part-time contract.
You will ideally have:
Substantial experience preparing grant financial information for proposals and reports, including budget construction and funder-facing financial narrative.
Strong experience of grant compliance, donor reporting and managing restricted funds within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
Experience designing or implementing a procurement framework, including supplier onboarding, purchase orders and contract management.
Experience of month-end reconciliations, audit schedules and supporting external audit.
Part-qualified accountant status – ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent.
AAT Level 4, or equivalent experience, will be considered where substantial grant and procurement experience is demonstrated.
Strong Excel skills.
Experience of Sage Intacct is highly desirable, although experience with other cloud-based finance systems will be considered.
Familiarity with Salesforce would be advantageous.
You will be:
Analytical, highly detail-focused and well organised.
Comfortable interpreting and communicating financial information to non-finance colleagues and funders.
A self-starter who can work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
Process-driven, with strong attention to compliance and financial controls.
An effective communicator who enjoys working collaboratively across teams.
Committed to knowledge sharing and ensuring robust processes are embedded for the long term.
This is a great opportunity to join a purpose-led organisation in a varied finance role, combining grant accounting, financial reporting, compliance and procurement.
The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with 3 days per week and 1–2 days based in a central London office, just a short walk from Bank Station.
If you are an experienced grant accountant looking for a part-time fixed-term opportunity where you can make a tangible impact, we would be very keen to hear from you.
