Interim Financial Controller

Are you a qualified Financial Controller with strong charity sector experience? Do you enjoy improving finance processes rather than simply maintaining them? Are you available at short notice for an interim opportunity with the potential to become permanent?

We're working with a national charity based in South London to recruit an Interim Financial Controller following the unexpected departure of the current incumbent. Whilst there may be a small amount of year-end audit work to conclude, the real focus of the role is strengthening financial controls, improving finance processes and preparing the organisation for a future finance system implementation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys leaving a finance function in a stronger position than they found it.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the month-end close and production of management accounts
• Overseeing financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory reporting
• Acting as the key finance contact for the external auditors
• Managing and developing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams
• Reviewing, documenting and improving finance processes
• Supporting the early stages of a finance system replacement project

This is a varied role that combines hands-on financial control with genuine opportunity to improve the way finance operates. You'll join an organisation that is investing in its finance function, with plans to replace its finance system and modernise long-standing manual processes.

The role is offered on an initial six-month contract, with hybrid working and around one day per week in the South London office. Inside IR35 paid via Umbrella.

To be considered, please meet the following criteria:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• Previous Financial Controller or senior Financial Accountant experience
• Strong month-end, balance sheet and financial reporting knowledge
• Charity sector experience
• Experience using Sun Systems
• A track record of improving finance processes and controls
