Are you a technically strong Financial Accountant with excellent month-end experience? Do you enjoy working within large, complex organisations where you can take ownership of challenging accounting areas? Are you available at short notice and looking for a flexible interim opportunity with the potential to secure a permanent position?
A large charity is seeking an Interim Financial Accountant to join its finance team on an initial 3–6 month contract. Offering a highly flexible home working pattern with only occasional travel to the London office, this is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional to support a busy finance function through a critical period. There will also be the opportunity to apply for the permanent position.
The key responsibilities of the Interim Financial Accountant are:
- Taking ownership of a number of complex month-end accounting areas, ensuring accruals are calculated accurately and reported on time.
- Preparing and posting accruals, prepayments and journals to support the monthly close process.
- Managing complex payroll-related accruals, including costs for clinical staff provided through external organisations.
- Calculating and monitoring income accruals across a wide range of funding streams, ensuring income is recognised accurately and completely.
- Tracking funding agreements and purchase orders, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure income is correctly accounted for.
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving accounting discrepancies.
- Supervising and supporting an Assistant Accountant, reviewing work and providing guidance where required.
- Contributing to continuous improvements across the financial accounting function and supporting ad hoc technical accounting work.
The successful candidate will have:
- Ideally be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), although strong qualified by experience candidates will also be considered.
- Previous experience working as a Financial Accountant within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong experience preparing accruals, prepayments and month-end journals.
- Excellent technical accounting skills with the ability to manage complex accounting issues independently.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior finance staff would be advantageous.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships across the organisation.
- Be available to start at short notice.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a large charity in a highly flexible interim role, where you will play a key part in delivering high-quality financial reporting while gaining the opportunity to be considered for a permanent position.
