Are you a detail-focused Finance Assistant with strong experience working with Unit4 and payroll data? Do you enjoy resolving system queries, reconciling differences, and ensuring financial data integrity through structured analysis? Are you confident working with large datasets in Excel and supporting both finance and payroll processes?

A public sector organisation is seeking an Interim Finance Assistant to support its finance function during a busy operational period. This role is heavily focused on Unit4 support and payroll analysis, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely resolution of system and payroll-related queries.

Please note: Unit4 experience is essential. Candidates without Unit4 experience will not be considered. Payroll experience is required if Unit4 experience is not present, although Unit4 is strongly preferred.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating and resolving Unit4 queries, ensuring accurate financial data entry and system integrity
  • Supporting payroll analysis by reviewing payroll spreadsheets and identifying variances
  • Checking payroll outputs against expected data and investigating any discrepancies
  • Monitoring and tracking differences between payroll reports and finance system outputs
  • Working closely with an outsourced payroll provider to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of issues
  • Performing manual checks of payroll data where required to validate system outputs
  • Assisting with routine finance tasks and supporting the wider finance team as needed

The successful candidate will have:

  • Essential: Strong experience using Unit4 (this is a must-have requirement)
  • Strong payroll experience (required if Unit4 experience is not present, but Unit4 is strongly preferred)
  • High level of proficiency in Excel, including the ability to work with and reconcile complex spreadsheets
  • Experience working with financial or payroll data and identifying discrepancies
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data validation
  • Comfort working with outsourced providers and managing information flow between systems
  • A proactive and inquisitive approach to resolving issues and improving data quality

This is a hands-on interim role within a public sector organisation, offering the opportunity to support a key finance function and ensure the accuracy and reliability of both finance and payroll systems during a critical period.
