Robertson Bell are delighted to be exclusively partnering with a well-respected national charity to recruit an Interim Director of Finance & Resources for a nine-month period. This is a pivotal appointment, offering the chance to shape the organisation’s financial strategy, steady the ship during a period of transition, and play a key role in an exciting organisational restructure.

The role
Reporting to the Chief Executive and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead Finance, People, and Operations – including oversight of IT. You will be instrumental in developing a long-term, robust financial plan, ensuring the charity can continue to invest strategically while maximising value for money.

With healthy reserves, strong liquidity, and a history of year-on-year income growth, the organisation is financially sound – but now is the time to fine-tune performance, improve insight, and strengthen decision-making with deeper, more commercially astute analysis. The role requires travel to London once per week.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the Finance, People, and Operations functions, including a finance team of five members.
  • Supporting a new Head of Operations role and helping embed new ways of working following an organisational restructure.
  • Working closely with SLT colleagues to produce detailed, credible financial information that informs strategic decision-making.
  • Overseeing the year-end and audit process as well as budgeting and planning in early 2026.
  • Acting as a steady, credible presence during a time of change – supporting teams, resolving uncertainty, and maintaining business-as-usual delivery.

We are seeking an experienced Finance Director (qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) who has operated at SLT level, ideally overseeing a complex or matrix team. Charity sector experience strongly preferred.

You will bring:

  • Proven ability to dive into the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills, able to challenge constructively and add real value.
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams through change.
  • Excellent stakeholder skills, with the credibility to influence at board level.

This role is a rare opportunity to join a unique organisation at a time when your impact will be both immediate and long-lasting.

If you are a proven leader who can combine strategic vision with hands-on delivery, we would love to hear from you ASAP – this person needs to get started in early September and interviews will be held at the end of August.
