Do you enjoy working closely with operational teams to help them manage their budgets effectively? Can you combine strong financial discipline with the curiosity to improve processes and make things work better? Are you looking for a role where your work supports essential services in the local community?

A public sector organisation based in Northampton is seeking an Interim Assistant Finance Business Partner to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role sits within a busy operational finance team and will play a key part in supporting a number of back-office service areas with their financial management.

You will work closely with budget holders across corporate and tenant-facing support services, helping them understand financial performance, monitor spend and ensure budgets are managed effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting budget monitoring across several corporate and operational service areas with a multi-million pound combined spend.
  • Raising purchase orders, tracking expenditure and ensuring budgets are accurately recorded and monitored.
  • Working closely with 10-12 budget holders across services such as customer services, HR, governance, finance, IT and estates.
  • Producing financial analysis and supporting managers with understanding their budgets and financial performance.
  • Contributing to year-end processes, including supporting accruals, prepayments and financial controls.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, streamline reporting and strengthen budget management practices.

This role offers the chance to develop business partnering experience within a complex and evolving organisation. With organisational change underway and new ways of working being embedded, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring fresh ideas, improve processes and help shape how financial support is delivered to operational teams.

To be considered, please meet these criteria:

  • A background in management accounts with experience supporting budget monitoring or finance business partnering activities.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to ask questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and budget holders.
  • Studying towards an accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.

The role is based in Northampton with hybrid working, typically two days per week in the office, although more presence may be helpful during the initial onboarding period.

If you are looking to build your business partnering experience in a role where enthusiasm, curiosity and initiative are valued, we would be keen to hear from you.
