A well-known organisation based in North London is seeking an Interim Assistant Accountant to join its finance function on an initial 6-month contract. This is a varied role offering exposure to both management accounting and payroll, making it an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to broaden their experience within a busy and supportive team.
The role operates on a hybrid basis, with three days per week in the office and two days working from home.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and posting accruals, prepayments and other month-end journals
- Supporting the month-end close process and assisting with the production of management accounts
- Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Supporting the processing of payroll for over 200 employees, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
- Assisting with payroll reconciliations and responding to payroll-related queries
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting financial controls across the finance function
- Providing ad hoc support to the wider finance team as required
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience working within an Assistant Accountant role or similar
- Experience supporting payroll processes, ideally within a medium-sized organisation
- Strong understanding of accruals, prepayments and journal postings
- Experience supporting month-end activities and management accounting processes
- Knowledge of VAT returns and VAT accounting principles
- Ideally be studying towards a professional accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to thrive within a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Be available to start immediately or on no more than one week's notice
