Head of Finance

£67,000–£71,000 | Permanent | International Charity | Wiltshire

Lead finance, shape strategy, and make a lasting impact on a global mission.

Step into a senior role where your financial leadership will directly influence an organisation with complex international operations, and a bold strategic pivot ahead. As Head of Finance, you’ll drive decisions at board level, modernise systems, mentor a high-performing team, and ensure the charity continues to deliver life-changing work overseas.

This is your chance to combine hands-on accounting with strategic oversight, gain unmatched exposure to multi-entity finance, and position yourself for your next step in charity leadership.

Why this Head of Finance role will accelerate your career:

  • Shape strategy from day one – guide the CEO, Trustees, and committees with your financial insight, turning complex data into actionable decisions.
  • Own high-stakes complexity – manage overseas operations, foreign currency, pensions-style liabilities, and grant-in-aid funding while building a reputation for handling challenging finance environments.
  • Lead transformation – implement a new finance system, streamline reporting, and embed best practice that improves decision-making across the organisation.
  • Develop and mentor a team – lead a distributed UK and overseas finance function, building capability and freeing yourself to focus on strategy.
  • Deliver tangible social impact – your work will directly support vital services and long-term sustainability of a globally recognised mission.

What you’ll do – and what you’ll gain:

  • Own full financial leadership – from management accounts to statutory reporting and audit, shaping critical organisational decisions.
  • Provide strategic insight – model scenarios, manage treasury risks, and advise senior leaders on investment performance and long-term sustainability.
  • Drive efficiency and transformation – shorten month-end cycles, improve controls, and integrate finance with fundraising systems for smarter decision-making.
  • Lead committees and stakeholder engagement – act as secretary to Audit & Investment Committees, liaising with external auditors, actuaries, and investment managers.
  • Build a platform for senior leadership – gain visibility, credibility, and experience that positions you for Director-level roles in the future.

What you’ll need:

  • A full accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Senior-level experience producing accounts in a £5m+ organisation with real operational complexity.
  • Confidence presenting financial insight at board and committee level.
  • Hands-on capability combined with strategic thinking.
  • Charity, not-for-profit, or public sector experience preferred, though exceptional candidates from other sectors considered.

Location & working pattern:

Hybrid working, typically three days per week in the office (South of England), with flexibility for the right person. Occasional travel to London for committee meetings (expenses covered).
