Are you a hands-on finance leader with a track record of managing high-performing teams and delivering timely, accurate financial information? Do you enjoy taking ownership of processes, developing people, and ensuring that finance functions run efficiently and effectively?

We are seeking a skilled Head of Finance to take a pivotal role in running the finance department of a small not for profit organisation. This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on, operational finance environment, enjoys coaching and motivating a small team, and wants to make a real impact in a well-established yet evolving organisation.

As Head of Finance, you will:

  • Take full ownership of the finance department, ensuring timely production of management accounts, statutory accounts, cashflow forecasts, and other key financial reports.
  • Lead, support, and develop a small but capable team, fostering cohesion, motivation, and high performance across the department.
  • Partner with heads of service and operational teams to provide clear, insightful financial analysis and reporting to inform decision-making.
  • Own budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and timely delivery.
  • Work closely with the CFO and wider leadership team to maintain financial control, identify risks, and support improvements in finance processes.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and optimisation of the organisation’s  management and finance system.

This is a role that blends hands-on accounting with team leadership and management, offering a real chance to shape the finance function and leave your mark on the organisation. You will be expected to work in the Bedfordshire office at least three days per week.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Accountant or have equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate excellent people management skills, with experience motivating teams, delegating effectively, and creating a cohesive working environment.
  • Possess strong technical skills, with experience in management accounts, statutory accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management.
  • Be confident, proactive, inquisitive, and able to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Have experience managing upwards and reporting to senior stakeholders or executive teams.

If you are ready to step into a role where your expertise, leadership, and hands-on approach will directly influence the organisation’s continued success, we would love to hear from you.
