Head of Finance

£75,000 | Permanent | Hybrid | London

Could this be your first move into the international development sector?

We’re partnering with a purpose-led international development organisation that has grown rapidly over recent years, with turnover increasing by £25million in the last year. With further growth ahead, they’re looking for a Head of Finance to take ownership of a varied finance function and play a key role in supporting the organisation as it continues to evolve.

What makes this opportunity different?

  • A role that will grow with the organisation: This is not a static job. As the organisation expands, so will the scope and opportunities within the role.
  • Real ownership and visibility: Working closely with the CFO and Finance Committee, you’ll have genuine influence over how financial information is produced, understood and used.
  • Broaden your experience: Alongside core finance, you’ll gain exposure to donations, banking, systems, payroll and change management.
  • Lead while staying hands-on: Manage a small, capable team while retaining plenty of ownership across the finance function yourself.
  • A route into international development: Bring your existing finance expertise into a complex, purpose-led environment, with INGO experience not required.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and develop a small finance team, providing direction, challenge and support.
  • Own the month-end and annual reporting cycle, including statutory accounts and Finance Committee reporting.
  • Lead the external audit and oversee financial controls, systems and compliance.
  • Take oversight of payroll, payments, cashflow, banking and the financial management of donations.
  • Act as a trusted finance partner to colleagues across the organisation, providing insight and challenge where needed.
  • Lead finance-related improvements and change, finding practical solutions as the organisation continues to grow.

What you'll bring:

You’ll be a fully qualified accountant with proven experience managing at least one direct report. You’ll have strong financial accounting and reporting experience, ideally complemented by some FP&A or budgeting exposure.

Charity experience would be helpful, particularly an understanding of restricted and unrestricted funds, but it’s not essential. International development experience is also desirable rather than a requirement.

What matters most is that you’re a strong communicator, pragmatic problem solver and thoughtful manager who can use good judgement, adapt to changing circumstances and work confidently with people across the organisation.

If you’re looking for a finance leadership role where you can stay hands-on, broaden your experience and genuinely shape a growing organisation, we’d love to hear from you.
