Join a nationally recognised organisation making a tangible difference to the lives of people across the UK. In this Financial Controller role, you’ll lead a capable Financial Accounting team, take ownership of statutory reporting and audit, and play a key role in shaping future-facing finance processes – including the opportunity to explore the use of automation.

This is your opportunity to combine strong technical expertise with people leadership, ensuring financial integrity while supporting innovation and change across a respected, mission-driven charity.

What you’ll gain:
Ownership and influence – lead a well-resourced Financial Accounting team, responsible for balance sheet integrity, audit delivery, and statutory accounts.

Strategic input – help modernise financial processes, refresh the cost allocation model, and influence how technology and AI can enhance reporting.

Professional challenge – take on complex, hands-on work including implementing the updated SORP and supporting a major structural refresh.

Collaboration and visibility – work closely with senior finance leaders, external auditors, and colleagues across the charity.

Flexibility and balance – hybrid working, with a supportive culture that values wellbeing and impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and develop a team of Financial Accountants and Finance Officers, ensuring high standards across all outputs.
  • Lead the production of statutory accounts and act as the key contact for external auditors.
  • Review and oversee balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow forecasts, and financial controls.
  • Ensure accurate VAT reporting and support on wider tax compliance.
  • Implement changes arising from the updated SORP and drive improvements in accounting policies and processes.
  • Refresh the cost allocation model and ensure alignment with the charity’s new structure.
  • Lead and support process improvements, including exploring opportunities to leverage AI and automation.
  • Provide technical guidance and review to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.

What you’ll need:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience managing a small finance team.
  • Strong technical expertise in financial accounting, statutory reporting, and year-end processes.
  • Confidence working with auditors and managing external relationships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to challenge, support and influence effectively.
  • Charity or not-for-profit experience is desirable but not essential; audit-trained candidates with team management experience are also encouraged to apply.
