Do you enjoy taking ownership of payroll and management accounts? Are you an experienced finance professional with a passion for process improvement and people management? Are you looking for a role that offers variety, challenge, and the chance to make a genuine difference? Then this could be the opportunity for you!

Robertson Bell is delighted to be working with a values-driven national organisation to recruit a Finance Manager on a permanent basis. This role offers the chance to take on a pivotal post within a small but dedicated finance function, supporting an organisation that delivers essential services across the UK. Reporting into the Finance Director, this is a hands-on role with a broad remit – and a real opportunity to make improvements.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Taking ownership of the payroll function (around 400 employees, including casual workers), working to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Leading on the production of monthly management accounts and working closely with the Finance Director and Finance Business Partner on forecasting and budgeting.
  • Completing and improving balance sheet reconciliations, with a focus on strengthening processes and internal controls.
  • Managing VAT (including partial exemption) and preparing for external audits.
  • Line managing two Finance Officers, overseeing day to day responsibilities and fostering development opportunities.

This is a full-time permanent position based in London with a hybrid working model – typically two days per week in the office. The organisation offers a supportive culture, excellent work-life balance, and the chance to contribute to work that has a lasting social impact.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Accountant (AAT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Have demonstrable experience of running and reconciling payroll – ideally for 100+ staff.
  • Bring strong technical understanding of accounting principles and experience producing management accounts.
  • Be a confident line manager or supervisor, with a collaborative and proactive approach to leadership.
  • Be process-driven, with the ability to identify and deliver improvements to efficiency and controls.

Applications are under constant review so apply now to be considered!
