    £40,000 - 47,000 per annum | Hybrid
    Permanent | Full-time | 40 hours per week

Shape world-class research by being the finance expert academics rely on.

This is a high-impact finance role where you’ll sit at the heart of a busy academic environment, partnering with researchers and senior stakeholders to ensure research funding is managed effectively, compliantly, and with confidence. If you enjoy working closely with non-finance colleagues, navigating complexity, and adding real value beyond the numbers, this role offers breadth, visibility, and purpose.

    What you’ll gain

    • The opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of research grants and funding streams.
    • High levels of autonomy and ownership, including responsibility for grant audits and compliance.
    • A collaborative environment where finance is seen as a trusted advisor, not a back-office function.
    • Strong scope to deepen your experience in research finance, stakeholder management, and audit.

    What you’ll do

    • Act as a Finance Business Partner to academics, principal investigators, and project managers.
    • Support stakeholders to manage research funding effectively, from award through to close-out.
    • Ensure compliance with policies, departmental procedures, and funder terms and conditions.
    • Oversee and coordinate all grant audits within the department ensuring deadlines are met and compliance is clearly evidenced.
    • Provide clear, practical financial advice to help stakeholders make informed decisions.
    • Liaise confidently with external funding bodies and auditors to protect departmental interests.

    What you’ll need

    • Degree-level education or equivalent relevant experience.
    • Fully or part-qualified accountant.
    • Proven experience of financial management in a complex, fast-paced environment.
    • Strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to influence, negotiate, and challenge constructively.
    • Advanced IT skills, particularly Excel.
