Robertson Bell is delighted to be working with a respected educational organisation to recruit a Director of Finance. This is a rare opportunity to join an organisation with an exceptionally stable financial foundation, while playing a leading role in future organisational growth and supporting significant capital investment projects.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and working closely with Trustees and senior leaders, you will combine strategic financial leadership with operational oversight, ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability and informed decision-making across the organisation.

This role offers genuine breadth, visibility and influence, making it an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to broaden their leadership experience and shape the future of a growing organisation.

What you'll do – and what you'll gain

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide high-quality financial reporting, analysis and advice to senior stakeholders and Trustees.
  • Oversee management accounts, payroll, pensions, VAT, cashflow management and statutory returns.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, governance frameworks and audit expectations.
  • Lead internal and external audit processes and support risk management activities.
  • Develop and improve financial systems, controls and reporting processes.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a trusted financial adviser.
  • Represent the organisation in high-profile external meetings and partnerships.

What you'll need

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) is desirable, although qualified-by-experience candidates will also be considered.
  • Significant senior-level finance experience within a complex organisation.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of financial reporting, controls and governance.
  • The confidence to challenge, influence and support senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience within education, public sector, charity or regulated environments would be advantageous but is not essential.

Location & Working Pattern

Based in Warwickshire, with flexibility for hybrid working. Some home working is available, alongside regular on-site presence to support stakeholders and the finance team.
