Assistant Finance Manager

£37,000 to £39,000 | Remote Working – Occasional travel to Farnborough | Study Support

This role gives you flexibility, progression, and the chance to see the real world impact of your work. You will join a large public sector organisation where finance plays a visible role in decision making, and where people are trusted to work in a way that fits around their lives. With strong support for development and the opportunity to move across teams, this is a role you can genuinely grow into.

You will sit within a well resourced finance function and can align more closely with either finance business partnering or financial accounting, depending on your experience and interests. Either way, you will gain exposure that builds confidence, technical capability, and stakeholder credibility.

What you’ll do

  • Support senior finance colleagues with budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Work with multiple budget holders, attending meetings and responding to financial queries
  • Assist with monthly reporting and movement of budgets across divisions
  • Take responsibility for specific areas of the budget with appropriate oversight
  • Contribute to year end processes, statutory returns, and financial reporting
  • Support treasury activities including cashflow monitoring and investment reporting
  • Assist with capital accounting, grant income monitoring, and VAT reporting
  • Work across multiple finance systems in a large, evolving organisation

You will benefit from a genuinely flexible working culture, with remote working widely supported and freedom to manage your time around personal commitments. The organisation offers strong study support, clear career progression, and the opportunity to move internally as your interests develop. The wider benefits package includes a generous pension scheme, study support, annual leave, wellbeing support, discounted healthcare, and a range of everyday discounts and fitness facilities.

What you’ll need

  • Previous experience working in a finance role with exposure to accounts or financial reporting
  • An interest in developing a career within the public sector
  • Strong Excel skills including pivot tables and SUMIFS and confidence working with system data
  • A willingness to learn and adapt in a large, changing environment
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Clear and confident communication skills

About the organisation

You will be joining a large public sector body delivering essential services, with a finance team that values flexibility, development, and teamwork. The organisation offers long term stability, meaningful work, and the chance to feel that your contribution genuinely matters.
