Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to support the effective financial management of the organisation. The role involves delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and ensuring smooth day-to-day finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and submission of timely returns to HMRC and pension providers, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and in line with agreed payment terms.
  • Producing fully allocated year-end accounts for audit and liaising with auditors throughout the year.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with banking partners.
  • Liaising with accounting system providers to ensure system effectiveness.
  • Ensuring all financial policies and procedures are followed and adhered to across the organisation.
  • Responding to staff queries relating to salaries, pensions, and budgets.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records in line with audit requirements.
  • Providing timely and accurate financial information, including variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Processing monthly payroll.
  • Managing the sales ledger, including issuing invoices and resolving related queries.
  • Advising on payroll-related financial matters such as tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
  • Producing salary analysis reports.
  • Ensuring regular reconciliation of accounts, codes, and sub-ledgers.
  • Monitoring and managing expenditure, identifying and reporting potential overspend.
  • Managing cashflow to ensure operations remain within agreed financial limits.
  • Supporting the implementation and maintenance of financial controls and procedures.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide clear recommendations.
  • Ability to produce accurate financial information within tight deadlines.
  • Experience managing payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
