Client Profile

The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) is a non-ministerial government department that regulates and oversees the companies that operate the UK's gas and electricity networks.


Robertson Bell worked with the organisation in November 2020 to place the newly created role of an Interim Finance Business Partner.

Considerations and challenges

  • The challenge of filling a brand-new role pushed search parameters beyond traditional areas in order to identify and engage talent with appropriate skills and public sector experience.
  • Ofgem had been undergoing a period of change, having re-structured its small finance team. Sourcing a candidate that was comfortable adapting to this change was crucial.
  • Identifying highly recommended contractors who may be available or open to a new position, at a time when finance roles are increasingly sought after.


Robertson Bell worked closely with the Resourcing Manager at Ofgem to finalise the candidate profile for the role of Finance Business Partner, pinpointing the exact requirements of the role. Our consultants took time to understand the needs of the organisation, and the high calibre of candidates that it expected.

We were able to deploy a broad range of impressive assets to match the demands of this recruitment assignment. The successful candidate was appointed as Finance Business Partner at Ofgem, having previously been in a long-term contract after working with consultants at Robertson Bell. With a proven track record, and able to work remotely to make the role viable, the candidate now works within the dynamic finance team at the organisation.
